Asphalt Paving Questions, Answered
Straight answers to the questions we hear most. See the full FAQ →
How much does it cost to pave a driveway in Maine?
+
It depends entirely on your property, so we quote every job with a free on-site estimate. Size, whether the old surface has to be removed, how much grading and base work the site needs, and current asphalt prices all move the number, which is why an honest contractor looks before quoting.
What is the best time of year to pave in Maine?
+
Roughly late spring through mid-fall, when temperatures stay warm enough for hot mix asphalt to compact and cure properly. We schedule around the Maine season and the forecast so your surface goes down under the right conditions.
How long before I can drive on new asphalt?
+
Usually about 24 to 72 hours depending on temperature, and longer in hot weather before you park heavy vehicles. New asphalt keeps curing for months, so we walk you through how to treat it in the first weeks.
Why is the base and grading work worth paying for?
+
Because in Maine the base is what survives the winter. If the ground is not excavated, regraded for drainage, and compacted before the asphalt goes down, water pools and freeze-thaw heaves the surface, and a cheap driveway can fail in the first winter or two.
What is recycled asphalt millings and is it cheaper?
+
Millings are reclaimed asphalt ground up and re-laid, and they cost less per ton than new hot mix. They compact and harden over time and work well for driveways, long private roads, and lots, which makes them a lower-cost, environmentally responsible option when they fit the job.
Do you handle both residential and commercial paving?
+
Yes. We take residential driveways and commercial parking lots, private roads, and lot maintenance, any size. Family owned and operated and insured, with free on-site estimates.
